After stunning the world on America?s Got Talent, Lebanese dance troupe Mayyas wasted no time bringing their hypnotic choreography closer to home. In October 2022, they travelled to Dubai for a headline performance at The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah ? their first major regional show outside Lebanon following their AGT win.
Arab News reported that Mayyas, who won season 17 of America?s Got Talent in September 2022, were scheduled to perform on October 21 at The Pointe, delivering two tightly choreographed five-minute routines. The appearance formed part of the Recognizing Emerging Local Musicians (Relm) initiative, a festival designed to spotlight regional talent and give artists a bigger stage.
Emirates Woman and other outlets highlighted that the event ran over three days, with live performances set against the backdrop of The Palm Fountain ? a Guinness World Record-breaking waterfront show. Mayyas were billed as one of the main attractions, headlining alongside acts such as Lebanese indie-pop band Adonis and other regional musicians.
Khaleej Times added that the troupe?s routines would be staged on both the East and West promenades, with their choreography projected across screens around the venue. For fans who had only seen them through television, the Dubai show was a rare chance to experience the group?s precision and visual storytelling in person.
For Mayyas, the performance marked an important bridge between global fame and regional grounding. Their AGT win came with a $1 million prize and the opportunity to headline a Las Vegas show, but the group?s identity is firmly Lebanese ? from the women who make up the troupe to the choreographic language that blends Arab aesthetics with contemporary and experimental movement.
Dubai provided a symbolic stage: a regional hub where Arab talent, international tourism and global media intersect. Performing there so soon after their U.S. victory reinforced the idea that the group?s journey is not just about Western recognition, but about reshaping how large-scale Arab dance productions are seen in the region itself.
For Lebanese audiences watching from afar, Mayyas? Dubai show offered a moment of shared pride. At a time when headlines about Lebanon often focus on crisis and collapse, images of an all-female troupe commanding a major Gulf stage ? under their own name, on their own terms ? carry their own quiet power.
